Goodbye Naka-Kon 2019! See You Next Year!

Wow, oh wow, oh wow…where do I even start? Naka-Kon was amazing, in spite of the fact that I had to leave early. As many of you know, I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and social anxiety, as well as a slew of other things, but since we’re talking anxiety, let’s focus on that.

There were a lot of people there this year, and it was a year of firsts for me. I hosted my first panel (if you’re wondering how that went, check out this amazing article written by Quinzel of Geek Girl’s Guide to Life about my panel, Cosplay on the Cheap ) and brought my two youngest with me to experience their first con!

Ordinarily, my roommate comes along. It’s always great to have a handler, and while at events where I don’t have my kiddos at, my husband acts as that, it was going to be super helpful to have my roomie there this time. Unfortunately, he ended up ill and unable to come so it was just the two of us. For Friday, not a problem. My kids are pretty good, so it’s not too much a struggle other than keeping them busy.

Saturday was the hard part. I get homesick in strange places, and so I fell asleep at midnight, woke up at 2am, and was up permanently. Around 7, I slid from bed to start putting on my Ganondorf makeup and armor. At 9, I was still running behind because I underestimated just how long it was going to take to get the makeup on.

By 9:05 I was out the door without hubby and the kids, because they were running late and I was supposed to be at a photoshoot at 9. I ended up stopped a good seven times before I found my photo, the awesome Sam Pho, and was able to get photos (check out the gallery for those!) and went on with my day.

I went from that photoshoot to craftsmanship judging, to my next photoshoot, to sound check, to the room to let them catch a nap, then down to the green room for the contest on my own because they were still asleep.

I didn’t win anything, but it was so much fun. 10/10 I would recommend competing at Naka-Kon. The green room energy is amazing, everyone is crazy supportive and friendly. We all just stood around cheering for one another and offering advice, tips, and got to know one another. (For more on the contest, here’s another awesome article by Quinzel at GGtL )

I didn’t get back to the room til around 7, at dinner, and then fell asleep around 10pm. I was back up at midnight, the kids and hubby still up, and I was having an anxiety attack. Long story short, we drove home that night ^^;

Am I coming back next year? HECK YES. Hopefully I’ll make it all three days and get more than 4 hours of sleep too XD. My kiddos loved it, and the staff was AMAZING in wishing my youngest a happy 5th birthday!
